Description
Turkish delight has been served alongside coffee for centuries, and it is worth saying plainly that not every flavour is suited to the job. The heavy, sugary ones fight the cup. These three do not.
Mint leads with twenty pieces, then fifteen each of Clove and Lemon. All three clean the palate rather than coating it — mint for freshness, clove for warmth, lemon for sharpness — which is exactly what you want at the end of a meal rather than the middle of an afternoon.
It is a deliberately grown-up box. There is nothing here a child would choose, and that is rather the point.
How it tastes
Mint — Cool and clean, closer to a fresh leaf than to confectionery. It clears the palate rather than coating it, which makes it the one that works after a meal.
Clove — Dark and aromatic, the most intense of our spices. A little goes a long way, so we use it as a base note rather than a headline.
Lemon — Sharp and clean, built on zest rather than sugar. It is the flavour that cuts through everything around it, which is why we put a little in boxes that would otherwise turn heavy.
