Description
Lemon is the one we point people to when they say they don’t like Turkish delight. Nine times out of ten what they don’t like is rose, and lemon is about as far from rose as this sweet gets: bright, clean and sharp, with none of the perfume that puts people off.
What it tastes like
The first thing you get is the smell — a genuine citrus lift, the kind you get from a lemon just after it’s been zested. Then the flavour: tart at the front, sweet underneath, and short. It doesn’t linger or cloy. It’s the lightest thing on our list and, we’ll admit, one of the less obvious choices, which is exactly why the people who like it tend to keep coming back to it.
How we make it
We use real lemon juice and zest, never concentrate or artificial lemon flavouring — that soapy, furniture-polish note in cheap lemon sweets comes from the fake stuff, and we don’t use it. The zest is where the aroma lives, so it goes in; the juice does the sharpness. It’s naturally vegan and gluten-free, set without gelatine, and each piece is hand-rolled and dusted rather than machine-cut.
How to enjoy it
Lemon Turkish delight is at its best with something hot and plain — black coffee, or a light herbal tea like chamomile or peppermint, where a heavier flavour would fight the cup. It’s a good summer sweet, good after a rich meal when you want something clean, and it works well mixed into a box with rose or mint rather than dominating one on its own.
