Description
There is one sweet in English literature that everybody remembers, and this is it. A boy meets a queen on a snowy road, she asks what he would most like to eat, and what appears is Turkish delight — enough of it to make him forget his own family. Generations of readers have closed that book wondering what on earth it tasted like.
Almost all of them have since been disappointed by a supermarket tin. The stuff that turns up at Christmas tends to be stiff, over-perfumed and coated in something closer to plastic than sugar. It is not what the story is describing.
This box is the two flavours that actually belong to that scene: half Original, half Rose, and nothing else in the way. Rose is the perfumed, floral one the sweet is famous for. Original is the plain lokum underneath it — honeyed, soft, quietly citrus. Twenty-five pieces of each, made by hand in small batches.
How it tastes
Original — Plain lokum, and the base everything else is built on. Honeyed and soft, with a faint citrus note underneath. Mild enough that it resets your palate between the stronger pieces.
Rose — Floral, perfumed and unmistakable — this is the flavour most people mean when they say “Turkish delight”. As old as the sweet itself, and worth trying properly made before deciding you dislike it.
